Distance Directly From Face Dial!
To determine distance in
miles or kilometers on any map, first determine
the scale of the map in which measurements will
be taken from. Match the map's scale
to the same scale on the map measure. Turn
the measuring wheel until the red needle is
aligned with zero on the matching scale.
Position the map measure so that the needle will
move clockwise when rolled along the map in the
direction of intended measurement. Place
the center of the measuring wheel on the
starting point, then begin to roll to take a
measurement. When the center of the
measuring wheel lands over the end point, lift
measure from map and read the distance from the
matching map scale.
Both the miles and kilometers
scales will only provide measuring distances within
approximately 36 inches in one full cycled
measurement. Longer map distances will require
separate measurements, and segments can then be
added together.
